Project Overview The project involved the critical final stage of constructing a new Railway Over Bridge (ROB) at the Sachin ROB/Satwalla Bridge Circle in Surat, Gujarat, a key connectivity point on National Highway 53.

  • Structure: Erection of a massive, prefabricated Bow String Girder (BSG), a highly efficient steel structure spanning over multiple active railway lines.

  • Scale: The girder measured 72.0 meters in length and weighed a colossal 750 Metric Tons, requiring specialized heavy-lift machinery and logistics.

  • Challenge: The core challenge was the successful maneuvering and launching of this huge structure over live railway tracks (including Western Railway and DFCC lines), which necessitated work within extremely restrictive and time-bound "Mega Block" periods.

  • Outcome: The successful completion of the launch integrated a crucial segment of the new ROB, contributing significantly to easing traffic congestion and enhancing safety in the Surat-Navsari corridor.

Casad's Scope of Work The team's role as the Railway Project Management Consultancy (PMC) was to manage, coordinate, and supervise the complex, high-risk erection operation:

  • Mega Block Management: Securing, coordinating, and managing the extremely short, critical Power and Traffic Blocks from Railway Authorities (WR/DFCC) to ensure zero interference with train operations.

  • Precision Launch Supervision: Overseeing the erection methodology (e.g., skidding, jacking, and final lowering) to guarantee millimeter-level alignment and safe load transfer of the 750 MT structure onto the pier caps.

  • Rigorous Safety Protocol: Developing, implementing, and enforcing zero-tolerance safety protocols and risk mitigation strategies for all personnel and heavy machinery working in the highly constrained railway boundary.

  • Resource Coordination: Expertly coordinating between the main contractor, specialized heavy-lift teams, Railway Engineering departments, and local civil authorities (SMC) to synchronize all activities.

  • Quality Assurance: Ensuring that the erection and final fixing of the girder met all required technical specifications, quality standards, and statutory clearances from railway bodies.

Capabilities in Action

This project is a true testament to the following key capabilities:

  • Railway Interface Expertise: Proven ability to manage and execute high-stakes construction activities successfully over live railway corridors, adhering strictly to all regulatory and safety clearances.

  • Heavy Lift Management: Specialized skill in coordinating the logistics, planning, and safe execution of mega-structures (750 MT), utilizing advanced launching techniques.

  • Precision Engineering: Demonstrating engineering excellence through detailed planning and flawless execution, which ensured the massive girder was positioned perfectly within the short railway block window.

  • Risk & Crisis Management: Capability to swiftly manage unexpected issues and ensure the operation stayed on schedule and within the allocated Mega Block time, thereby safeguarding project timelines and railway schedules.
